Rust Smart Alarm: What It Does and How to Set One Up
A Smart Alarm is a craftable electrical device that sends a Rust+ push notification whenever its Power In input receives power. On its own it doesn't know what caused that power - detecting an actual raid takes wiring it to something that only turns on when something happens.
Setting one up in-game
Craft the Smart Alarm and place it where it covers what you care about - a chokepoint, an external wall, or your TC room. Give it a clear name so you can tell it apart from others later, then wire its Power In to a power source. There's no separate damage-detection setting on the alarm itself - it fires the moment that input is powered, nothing more.
Turning it into a raid alarm
To get an alert specifically when your base is attacked, wire a Seismic Sensor into the circuit instead of powering the alarm directly. The sensor needs its own continuous power to listen, and its detection radius is adjustable up to 30 meters. It outputs power only when it detects a nearby explosion - rockets, explosive ammo, C4, or a helicopter blast, not gunfire or melee hits - with the output level varying by explosive type. Wire that output into the Smart Alarm's Power In, so the alarm only fires when the sensor actually detects something. The chain looks like: continuous power to the Seismic Sensor, the sensor detects an explosion nearby, its Power Out signals the Smart Alarm, the alarm fires a Rust+ event, rustchad picks that event up, and posts it to Discord.
What happens when it triggers
By default, a trigger sends a push notification through the Rust+ app to whoever's paired. That has real limits: it's easy to miss on a phone, there's no record of past triggers, and there's no way to ping a specific person or role instead of everyone.
Not getting an alert? Check these
- Power - in a sensor-gated circuit, the alarm normally shows unpowered at rest; that's expected, not a fault. Confirm instead that the Seismic Sensor itself has continuous power - a dead battery or disconnected wire there means it can't listen at all.
- Trigger output - test the Seismic Sensor on its own: trigger it, or briefly wire the alarm directly to a power source instead, to confirm the alarm itself fires correctly before troubleshooting the sensor.
- Device pairing - the alarm has to be paired to your Rust+ account, not just wired in-game, or it won't send a Rust+ event at all.
- Rust+ server support - the server needs Rust+ enabled and reachable; some servers disable or restrict it.
- Discord channel permissions - rustchad's bot needs permission to view and send messages in whichever channel you've pointed alerts to.
Getting it into Discord
rustchad connects your Smart Alarms to Discord automatically once your server is paired - see Rust Smart Alarm Discord for the setup, or Rust Raid Alerts if raid detection specifically is what you're after.
FAQ
- Do I need more than one Smart Alarm?
- The alarm itself has no detection range - that comes from whatever trigger feeds it. A Seismic Sensor's radius is adjustable up to 30 meters, so one circuit typically covers a single approach or room. Most bases end up wiring a few - one per entrance or vulnerable wall - so nothing gets missed.
- Can multiple people get the alert?
- Through Rust+ alone, only players paired to that alarm's server see the push notification. Routing it to a Discord channel is how a whole team sees it at once.
- Does it work if I'm not in the base?
- Yes - it fires whenever its Power In receives power, whether or not you're there to see it. It doesn't sense your presence, and on its own it doesn't sense damage either - what you wire into that power input is what decides when it goes off.
