Rust Smart Switch: What It Does and How to Use One

A Smart Switch is Rust's remote on/off toggle for anything wired into your power grid - turrets, lights, doors, sprinklers. The in-game way to control it is the Rust+ app; there are faster options if you're already in Discord.

Common uses

Turret power

Cut power to auto turrets while you're building or peaceful, and switch them back on when you leave.

Farm lights

Run grow lights on a schedule or toggle them manually without walking to every planter.

External doors

Power a garage door or gate remotely instead of walking back to open it by hand.

Sprinklers

Turn a sprinkler-based farm setup on and off without standing next to the switch.

Controlling it via Rust+

By default you open the Rust+ app, find the switch in your device list, and tap it to toggle. That works fine for one switch on your phone, but it doesn't scale well to flipping several at once or letting a teammate do it without handing them your phone.

Controlling it from Discord instead

rustchad adds a /switch command so anyone in your Discord server with access can list and toggle switches without opening Rust+ at all. See Rust Smart Switch Discord for the full setup.

FAQ

Can I control multiple switches at once?
Not as a single action by default - each switch is toggled individually. Grouping related switches together (so they're easier to find) is a Premium feature in rustchad.
Do I need to be logged into Rust to toggle one?
No - once your server is paired, toggling works through that connection whether or not you're actually in the game.
What's the difference vs a Smart Alarm?
A Smart Alarm only sends a notification when triggered - it can't be controlled. A Smart Switch is the reverse: you control it, it doesn't alert you to anything on its own.

Toggle switches without opening Rust+

Free to start - pair your server and your first switch shows up automatically.
